From a Banana Plantation, Starbucks created a Community Project by bringing IT Facilities and Knowledge to the community in Kg. Lubok Jaya. And right now, we harvest not only the crop from the banana plantation, but the social impact, the inspiration, and also a group of students who have potential to become authors in the future.

In conjunction with one year anniversary of  Starbucks Kg. Lubok Jaya Community Computer Centre, as a working partner for this project, HOPE worldwide Malaysia is very honored to be invited to be a part of this event!

One of the main objectives for this community project, Starbucks wishes to bring the best of the students, as to raise them to become future authors. Hence part of the syllabus of the computer training that facilitated by HOPE worldwide Malaysia is to train the students in their typing skills. Through typing, the students get to type their imagination and their stories. During the event, one of the students read out her story to everybody, on how she feels after being trained in the computer centre, and the heartfelt sharing indeed moved many of the audiences in tears.

After one year, indeed we look forward to provide our support to make this community project a sustainable one for the community and the next generations, to bridge them to a brighter future.

Thanks to each and everyone of you who used to purchase Banana Frappucinos and products at Starbucks outlet, eventually the funds we collected, we built a community computer centre that benefited the community in Kg. Lubok Jaya.

Official Launching of Starbucks Malaysia Roots and Shoots Project

30 January 2015, Official Launching of Starbucks Malaysia Roots and Shoots Project at Starbucks Kota Kemuning

HOPE worldwide Malaysia is honored to be invited to attend the Official Launching of Starbucks Malaysia Roots and Shoots Project. Being a part of this program was indeed a great privilege, because we got to listen to Dr. Jane Goodall's life story shared by herself about how she was so curious to know about the nature and animals since she was very young and her journey in persevering the mother nature.

Dr. Jane Goodall Roots and Shoots Project was founded in 1991, with its goal is to bring together youngsters to work on environmental, conservation and humanitarian issues. Now, after spanning for more than two decades, the project is still growing strong and eventually, Roots and Shoots project is here in Malaysia!

Dr. Jane Goodall has been tirelessly travelling more than 300 days in a year, just to advocate her awareness to different countries.

During the launching ceremony, the Executive Director of HOPE worldwide Malaysia presented one of the projects we have been working closely with Starbucks Malaysia, the Community Computer Centre in Kg. Lubok Jaya, which we facilitate the computer learning program for the students aged from 7 to 17 years old at the village. With this, one of the students shared with Dr. Goodall about her learning experience in the computer centre.

Together, we hoped for a better world for all of us and our generations to live in. And it starts from each and every individual, which is you and me, by making the change.

Starbucks Community Development Project - Kg Lubok Jaya Community Computer Program Graduation

25 October 2014, Graduation Ceremony for 1st Semester Students - Kg. Lubok Jaya Community Development Project by Starbucks Malaysia

Since our first Cpmputer class started in September at Kg. Lubok Jaya Community Computer Centre, we have had great time with the children for the past 2 months. Not only that, we also got to train a community facilitator who is also a teacher to teach the children for upcoming sessions.

And now, we close up the chapter of 1st Semester (Sep to Oct), as we prepared for the next Semester by the month of November, we would like to encourage this group of children with a simple graduation ceremony.

Thanks Starbucks Malaysia for your CSR Initiatives that brings impact and knowledge to the children who lived in rural area like Kg. Lubok Jaya. We look forward to continue to train more children in upcoming sessions.

BOLATHON Presents An Array of Color & Joy

01 June 2014, BOLATHON Charity Fun Run & Masquerade Walk at Padang Merbok

The addition of HOPE worldwide Malaysia’s maiden 10 kilometres Fun Run to its Bolathon – Charity 3km Masquerade Walk 10km Fun Run on its third anniversary held in conjunction with FIFA World Cup once every four years, had over 2800 football aficionados and

enthusiasts gathering before sunrise on a Sunday morning.

There were best-dressed prizes up for grabs for individual and group category whereby, participants were encouraged to have their photo taken at the Photo Booth tent to take part in the contest. Grazing their presence at this year’s Bolathon was a family of Superheroes with the toddler attending to mischief as Superman. Also present were Captain America, Spiderman, Minions and other well-known characters. “My kudos goes out all those who participated and supported the fundraising event. It is tremendous to have so many enthusiasts who rise up and unite for an initiative to better serve the underprivileged

communities in Malaysia. 

It was a sensationally calm morning with minimal noise pollution to also enjoy the perks of DBKL’s Car Free Morning. The proceeds from Bolathon will be channelled towards HOPE’s flagship programmes centred on Health, Education and Nutrition such as Free Health Clinics, Reading and Food Distribution”, said Darick Wong, Country Director of HOPE worldwide Malaysia. Following the Run, there was a Friendly Futsal match held where corporate sponsors registered teams to compete against each other. Hyundai took first place followed by DoubleTree by Hilton as the first-runner up. Participating for the first time, Nor Athirah from Kota Kemuning said, “I feel extremely excited to join other participants for a great cause. It is a good initiative for the public as it improves our well-being and also an opportunity to bond with family and participate in Bolathon together”.

HOPE worldwide Malaysia will look forward to host the Fourth Bolathon in 2018 and continuously identify opportunities to enrich as a unique family-friendly event and the 10km Fun Run is here to stay.

Starbucks Connecting Communities - CSR Project at Kampung Lubok Jaya

19 April 2013, Starbucks Connecting Communities in Malaysia, Official Launching CSR Project at Kampung Lubok Jaya at Berjaya Times Square

Starbucks is going to launch a new food products which are made freshly by bananas from Banana Plantation located at Kampung Lubok Jaya, a rural village which near to Kuala Selangor.

Giving back to the society: While making new products, Starbucks wants to make this collaboration a meaningful one. Starbucks decided to set up a Computer Centre in Kampung Lubok Jaya. Part of the profit earned from the newly launched products will be donate back to the development of Kampung Lubok Jaya.

HOPE worldwide Malaysia gladly lending our helping hands to support and participate Starbucks' noble cause, to work together with Representatives of Kampung Lubok Jaya, in setting up the Computer Centre. This is going to be an exciting program! Hence, all you need to do is to drop by any of the Starbucks' outlets, and purchase the brand new products made by bananas, and you are contributing to this good cause. While sipping your coffee and having your banana snacks, another kids in the rural village has a chance to learn and access to multimedia facilities.

Thanks to Starbucks Malaysia for inviting the volunteers of HOPE worldwide to attend Starbucks Anniversary and Christmas Celebration at Tropicana City Mall. The volunteers thoughtfully performed a Christmas Carol flashmob to surprise the crowd and it was truly remarkable!

Starbucks Global Month Community Service

12 May 2012, Starbucks Global Month Community Service at Sungai Congkak

It was a great initiative from Starbucks in giving back to the nature to have this Community Service at Sungai Congkak Reserved Forest, to clean up the environment and the waterfall by picking up rubbish and cans.

HOPE worldwide Kuala Lumpur was invited to join this cause! Together 5 of us, include myself in the team, had a great time with Starbucks Store Managers in cleaning up the designated forest area.

After that, we had some snacks and fruits as a small celebration for everyone's hardwork! The Starbucks Coffee Van was there too, serving the chilling Iced Chocolate! Thanks to Salleh and the team, for your kind coordination. Look forward to have more working opportunities in the future.

Christmas Party & Beautiful Carols at Starbucks Bangsar Village II

Thanks to Starbucks Bangsar Village II for hosting such a fun and joyful Christmas Party for 70 children from Sentul! That night, we had numerous exciting games with the children. One of it was "Wrapping Snow Man" as the children were given different materials to create their own snowman by wrapping one of the child with napkins from their group.

The dazzling carols added the colors of Christmas into the party! Thanks for the lovely singing from a group of 30 carols singers! It was awesome!
