SAP Malaysia CSR Filming at 1 Stop IT Resource Centre

24 October 2015, SAP Malaysia CSR Filming Day at 1 Stop IT Resource Centre

SAP Malaysia CSR Filming Day took place at HOPE worldwide Malaysia 1 Stop IT Reource Centre with 7 students from our beneficial families and 7 volunteers from HELP Universities as the mentors for the students, in completing online research project by using Microsoft Power Point.

SAP Malaysia has been supporting the 1 Stop IT Resource Centre since the program was established in 2013, in both HOPE worldwide Kuala Lumpur and Penang. More than 300 students were benefited from this program. In Kuala Lumpur, we have been conducting classes in teaching Microsoft Office - Word, Power Point and Excel and also Windows Movie Maker, and as of 2014, total 196 students were graduated from these classes.

On that day, the students were given 2 titles to choose:
(1) Tell us about your favorite country and why do you wish to travel there?
(2) Talk about Endangered Animals and how do you protect them?

Besides the 6 students whose age range are from 10 to 12 years old, we also have one adult learner, her name is Madam Jeya, who is a single mother, which she followed both of her sons, Maatheeswaran (14 years old) and Dinheshwaran (16 years old) to the centre, in hope to learn some computer skills, in order to have more employment opportunities. Both Maatheeswaran and Dineshwaran also our students in our education programs since they were very young. Dineshwaran is now empowered to be one of the volunteers to assist our main facilitator to facilitate the class for the SAP Malaysia CSR Filming Day.

Madam Jeya is a single mother who raised up three children - Yogavarthine (eldest daughter), Dineshwaran and Maatheeswaran all by herself. Through life is challenging for here, but her self-motivated spirit by not stopping herself to learn new things is very inspiring.

Mentored by the volunteers from HELP University, each student was given 1 hour to do online research for the title they chose. Both volunteer and student together look for information and photos for their topic.

While the students and volunteers were working on their projects, the production team kicks start with their documentation by interviewing the Managing Director of SAP Malaysia, Mr. Terrence Yong and the Program Manager of HOPE worldwide Malaysia, Mr. Caesar Teh. After the interview session, the team also documented the students and volunteers inside the 1 Stop IT Resource Centre.

After the students are done with their presentation, the student together with their mentor, present their works through showing their presentation on the projection screen.

Thanks to SAP Malaysia and the production team, who had made this session so special and uplifting for the students. We look forward to empower more individuals through the 1 Stop IT Resource Centre especially open up more learning opportunities for adults like Madam Jeya.

Youths Volunteerism in Education Programs

28 September 2013, Youths Volunteer in Reading Program, Creative Art Program & Computer Program

It was April this year when the Youth volunteers last came to the HOPE worldwide Children Activity Centre. And we are again to have more than 30 volunteers which including the youths and their mentors to involve in several programs - Reading Program, Creative Art Program & Computer Program.

The highlight of this volunteerism experience was, the Computer Program! After the first online research we had done with volunteers from Dow Chemical, we discovered that the students enjoyed themselves very much and they had gained a lot of knowledge, as well as confidence in presentation. So we would like to have the Youths to be the mentors for the students, and the topic we were doing this time was "Country and its Culture & History". The student can first decide the country they would like to do the online research on, and together with the youths, they put all the information and pictures inside the Power Point Presentation.

Great job to all Youth Volunteers and all the best to you studies, especially for those who are sitting for examinations during this year-end. Hope to see you guys again!

Dow Chemical volunteers & students doing internet research about Environment

21 September 2013, Dow Chemical volunteers at 1 Stop IT Resource Centre

A great community work done by Dow Chemical Volunteers for the urban poor students in doing internet research on several topics about Environment at our 1 Stop IT Resource Centre a.k.a the Community Computer Centre which is just established in January this year.

Approximately 15 volunteers from Dow Chemical were here last Saturday. We have 9 students here aged from 10 to 13 years old who are the current students selected to attend the Microsoft Skills Learning Classes which is held on alternate Saturdays at the 1 Stop IT Resource Centre.

We got to know Dow Chemical during the month of August while we were invited to conduct the workshop about Community & Volunteerism at their premises. We also received donation amounting RM 16,000.00 from Dow Chemical which will benefit a total of 60 urban poor students in purchasing their schooling needs during the year-end School Sponsorship Program.

Dow Chemical volunteers had a great time doing online research with the students. Each volunteer was assigned to group with one student to do this project. Environment is a general topic, so we break the main topic into smaller areas for them to focus on: Recycling, Global Warming, Water, Endangered Species & Trees (Forest). After gathered sufficient information from the internet, the volunteers will do a Power Point Presentation Slides together with the students. Lastly, the presentation slides will be printed out and bound together as a project book. Evrery respective volunteer and student who did the topic research will do a LIVE presentation for everyone. The best presentation group will be awarded!

Thanks to Dow Chemical for your initiatives in reaching out to the underprivileged students. We believe this is a milestone for both HOPE worldwide Malaysia and Dow Chemical in achieving a greater height of CSR Initiatives. Especially in educating the urban poor students about the importance of taking care our environment in many aspects. Thanks again to Dow Chemical and we shall see you all very soon for the next project!
