DoubleTree by Hilton KL Launches "Book for CARE"

23 September 2013, DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur "Books for CARE" Official Launching with ATP 2013 Players

DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur Launches "Book for CARE", a Corporate Responsibility (CR) Initiative in Partnership with HOPE worldwide Malaysia. The Official Hotel of the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2013 gains support from the ATP World Tour tennis players to support the literacy and learning development of underprivileged children

This is a great honor for HOPE worldwide Malaysia to have this charity collaboration with DoubleTree by Hilton. Not only that, it was significant to have the official launching together with the 3 renowned tennis players from ATP 2013 - Nicolas Almagro, Ryan Harrison and Vasek Pospisil.

4 children from the HOPE worldwide Reading Program were invited to be the representatives of the beneficial children to attend the official launching of Books for CARE project together with 3 ATP Tennis Players.

Books for CARE is a CR project by DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur that supports Hilton Worldwide's CR commitment to "Travel with Purpose". "Books for CARE" seeks preloved book donations from team members, clients, nearby office tenants and surrounding (business) communities to increase underprivileged children's access to more books and to support their literacy, education and development. These books are displayed in a book closet located at hotel reception and when full, the books are donated to HOPE worldwide Malaysia. A cash donation box is also placed at the reception desk, and proceeds are used to buy new books in mint condition directly from the book trade. In exchange for each occasion of donation, the classic signature DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie is presented as an expression of thanks for the partnership with DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur in making a difference through "Books for CARE".

The press launch presented the unveiling of the book closet wrapped with ribbons. To celebrate, the 3 tennis players of the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur, an ATP World Tour 250 Series Event and children from HOPE worldwide Malaysia decorated three cakes made in the shape of books, created by Kevin Yong, pastry chef of DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur. This was followed by an autograph session by the tennis players on Limited Edition DoubleTree cookie tins and selected children's books. The DoubleTree signature chocolate chip cookies are sold by the tins (of seven cookies each) at RM 50.00 at the Hotel's Food Store and Putra Stadium of the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur from September 21 to 29, 2013. Tennis fans will have the opportunity to purchase an individual cookie or the Limited Edition signed cookies tins. Funds raised from the sale of the Limited Edition cookie tins will be used to buy new books in mint condition for contribution towards "Books for CARE".

This is a meaningful and memorable occasion for HOPE worldwide Malaysia. And we look forward for the day when the Books for CARE are ready to be distributed to the children! Thanks to DoubleTree by Hilton for your thoughtfulness and effort in making this very special project a remarkable one!

Dow Chemical volunteers & students doing internet research about Environment

21 September 2013, Dow Chemical volunteers at 1 Stop IT Resource Centre

A great community work done by Dow Chemical Volunteers for the urban poor students in doing internet research on several topics about Environment at our 1 Stop IT Resource Centre a.k.a the Community Computer Centre which is just established in January this year.

Approximately 15 volunteers from Dow Chemical were here last Saturday. We have 9 students here aged from 10 to 13 years old who are the current students selected to attend the Microsoft Skills Learning Classes which is held on alternate Saturdays at the 1 Stop IT Resource Centre.

We got to know Dow Chemical during the month of August while we were invited to conduct the workshop about Community & Volunteerism at their premises. We also received donation amounting RM 16,000.00 from Dow Chemical which will benefit a total of 60 urban poor students in purchasing their schooling needs during the year-end School Sponsorship Program.

Dow Chemical volunteers had a great time doing online research with the students. Each volunteer was assigned to group with one student to do this project. Environment is a general topic, so we break the main topic into smaller areas for them to focus on: Recycling, Global Warming, Water, Endangered Species & Trees (Forest). After gathered sufficient information from the internet, the volunteers will do a Power Point Presentation Slides together with the students. Lastly, the presentation slides will be printed out and bound together as a project book. Evrery respective volunteer and student who did the topic research will do a LIVE presentation for everyone. The best presentation group will be awarded!

Thanks to Dow Chemical for your initiatives in reaching out to the underprivileged students. We believe this is a milestone for both HOPE worldwide Malaysia and Dow Chemical in achieving a greater height of CSR Initiatives. Especially in educating the urban poor students about the importance of taking care our environment in many aspects. Thanks again to Dow Chemical and we shall see you all very soon for the next project!
